MEXICO EDITION. Mexico's presidential race is heating up. Frontrunning candidates from the formerly ruling Partido Revolucionario Institucional and the left-of-center Partido de la Revolución Democrática trade accusations of violating elections laws to promote their image. Host Martha Elena Ramírez comments on these developments and on an expose by a British newspaper, which reveals that PRI candidate Enrique Peña Nieto would have hired Televisa, the largest TV network, to build a promotional image since 2005, when he was a governor. She also comments on reports about excessive and unreported campaign expenses. Finally, Ramirez brings archival voices from citizens who in a radio program in 1996 called on TV stations for editorial balance, and demanded legislation that would allow citizens to exercise free speech on the airwaves of electronic media. This edition of Linea Abierta is in collaboration with Voz Pública, from Mexico City.
