This is a conversation with Iván Román, executive director of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, taped during the recent 25th Convention of the group. Román comments on the push to include Latinos in an upcoming TV documentary on
World War II, the controversy around the lifetime membership for commentator Lou Dobbs, Latino representation in the nation’s newsrooms, and more.
ALSO, MEMORY OF AN ANTI-AIDS FIGHTER. Young aspiring journalists from a college in Los Angeles tell the story of Mr. Guadalupe Santibáñez-González, an AIDS-infected patient who recently succumbed to the disease in Tijuana. The group of reporters interviewed the patient just before his death and captured on tape his story of social rejection and his legacy of AIDS-prevention activism.
