“¡SOY SALVADOREÑO!” - CHANCHONA MUSIC. The Smithsonian Folkways record label releases the first album of traditional Salvadoran music published and distributed in the United States. “¡Soy Salvadoreño!” features chanchona folk music of los Hermanos Lovo, a family-band that fled El Salvador during the civil war and now lives in the U.S. The group plays traditional melodies on two violins, and mixes in cumbias and merengues to create a unique sound. This edition marks the beginning of special programs on occasion of National Latino Heritage Month.

Guests: Trinidad Lovo, Violinist and band leader, Los Hermanos Lovo, Washington, DC, http://smithsonianfolkways.tumblr.com/post/8997913277/el-salvadoran-expa... ; Daniel Sheehy, Curator and Director, Smithsonian Folkways, Washington, DC, www.folkways.si.edu
