Considered the father of Chicano music, Lalo Guerrero's career has spanned over six decades. Mr. Guerrero is a pioneer of several Mexican-American musical styles, bringing to music his bilingual roots. Mr. Guerrero is recognized as the first to bring American swing to Mexican music. He is also recognized for using his poignant humor in songs of social protest. He has been declared a National Folk Treasure by the Smithsonian Institution, and he is a recipient of the National Medal of the Arts.
