After the results of an internal investigation, he recognized that his officers did use excessive use of force. Immigrant rights groups are pushing for the expulsion of at least 26 officers.

SHACKLED WHILE GIVING BIRTH. Immigrant mother Juana Villegas was recently awarded compensation in damages after she was shackled during labor by sheriff deputies in Tennessee. Villegas, an undocumented resident, was detained by the sheriffs under an immigration program when she was nine months pregnant. When it came time for her to give birth, she was shackled to the ambulance and bed and separated from her baby for two days after birth. Her case has brought attention to the human rights of detained women during labor and delivery, and the consequences of local police acting as immigration agents.
