NEW SOIL FUMIGANT. California, the leading user of pesticide fumigants may approve yet another fumigant that’s described as a highly toxic and cancer-causing chemical. Corporate lobbyists are pushing California governor Schwarzenegger to approve the new pesticide Methyl Iodide. Public health advocates urge the governor to heed the advice of scientists and regulatory agencies who call this chemical one of the riskiest pesticides for farm workers and rural communities.
