OREGON PRIMARY: VOTERS FORUM FROM WOODBURN. Línea Abierta goes on the road again to cover the Oregon presidential primary. In partnership with grassroots station KPCN-LP 96.3 FM, Radio Movimiento, this program airs from Woodburn, affectionately called “Oregon’s Little Mexico,” because it is the largest city in Oregon where a majority are Latinos and people of color. This edition, aired on election day’s eve, features a forum with local voters, discussing issues high in their mind, including a new law banning undocumented immigrants from getting drivers’ licenses, the current home foreclosure crisis, affordable housing for farm workers, health care services, and more. This special edition is part of the series “Hacia el Voto 2008.”

Hosted from the studios of KPCN-LP in Woodburn, this special edition provides a news review on election-day developments in Salem, Portland, Woodburn and elsewhere in Oregon. While Oregon’s Latinos will continue being a small segment of the voter population, election observers anticipate a surge in Latino young voters. News reporters file stories on the atmosphere, voter participation and informal polls in this vote-by-mail primary election. Political observers also provide context and perspective on the Latino vote. This one-hour report is part of the series “Hacia el Voto 2008”.
