Línea Abierta : DOLE TO PAY BANANA WORKERS

DOLE TO PAY BANANA WORKERS. Central American farm workers won a verdict in Los Angeles against the transnational giant Dole Food Co. A judge found the food company deliberately exposed workers to a dangerous pesticide that made them sterile. The verdict, considered the first from a U.S. court on liability claims by foreign workers, could set a precedent for similar lawsuits from workers from around the world.

Guests:

Juan José Domínguez, attorney for plaintiffs in Téllez vs. Dole case, Los Angeles; Henry Saint Dahl, president, Inter American Bar Association, Washington, DC; Pedro Regalado and Victoriano Bucardo Medina, banana plantation workers, plaintiffs against Dole Food Co., Chinandega, Nicaragua; representatives of Dole Food Co. and Dow Chemical sent a written statement.
