FESTIVAL HONORS MARIACHI PIONEER. Radio Bilingüe’s ¡Viva el Mariachi! Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary this weekend. The festival is preparing a tribute for mariachi legend Miguel Martínez, a trumpet virtuoso who spearheaded the “Golden Age” of mariachi music in the 1940s as a trumpet player for the best mariachis and ranchera singers of the time. Martínez is credited with creating the two-trumpet style of the modern mariachi sound.
